BGF CSA - "What's In the Box?" Week 1

Posted 6/3/2019 12:37pm by Scott Farabaugh.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Welcome to our 12th CSA season!  I'm sure many of you are ready to eat fresh and crisp produce now that you've cleared out your canned cupboards and freezers.  We pray that God will bless us with a beautiful balance of sunshine and rain this summer.  He's already blessed us with an incredible starter box, WOW!

We have new boxes!  We have gone back to cardboard this season. Those plastic ones were good until they weren't.  Too many split at the seams, and too much time was taken to rinse them each week.  These new ones are an inch higher and wider, which doesn't sound like much. Trust those of us who carefully arrange the stacking order of produce each week, that inch goes a long way! So look for brown boxes, not white ones, at your sites.

As mentioned before, we will not have our traditional weekly Newsletter this season. However, we will provide a weekly statement of "What's In The Box?" and an occasional recipe that we think you just can't live without!  We will be updating the recipes on our website, so check those out. Also Scott has taken the farm into the social media realm...so follow us on Instagram.

There's no doubt you'll be eating lots of greens this summer.  If it wasn't already, green may become your new favorite color!  Utilize your cookbooks (those antiquated volumes of paper with recipes), favorite Pinterest sites, and YouTube videos for what to do with fresh produce.  If you come across something great and interesting and delicious, please share with us so we may post it for our members.  Thanks in advance.

"WHAT'S IN THE BOX" - WEEK 1bok choy, broccoli, green onions, head lettuce, kale, radishes, swiss chard, white turnips

Recipe Suggestions: Bok Choy Salad, Creamed Greens on Pasta, Honey Glazed Turnips, and Radish Spread (All of these may be found on the website.)

Again, we sincerely thank you for joining us on another food journey.            Happy Eating!                                                                                             Scott & Chrissy Farabaugh
