BLUE GOOSE FARM ~ Nicktown, PA

FROM OUR HANDS TO YOUR TABLE

Welcome to the blog.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

With some experimentation over the weekend as to how to use celery in ways other than as veggie sticks for dip, ants on a log, stuffing, or Waldorf Salad, we found one delicious alternative way to not waste those fabulous leafy celery greens - PESTO! After our discoveries with garlic scape pesto and kale pesto, we think pesto may be the new way to use loads of any kind of leafy greens to avoid juicing them (yea, green juice is not for everyone!).

We apologize for any confusion you may have experienced while trying last week's recipe for Steamed Beets with Sautéed Greens. Here's the correct version of the recipe - Steamed Beets.

As you'll discover after reading the newsletter, here is the link to Vale Wood Farm's "Farm to Fork" - invitation. We hope you'll join us for this delicious venture.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

The boxes are really green this week but with lots of variety. Your only source of color comes from the red beets! We offer a delicious recipe for Steamed Beets with Sautéed Greens, which you can increase by heeding this side note that couldn't fit into the newsletter...

NOTE: You can add a similar amount of chard leaves (ribs removed) as the listed beet leaves and double the remaining ingredients. However, serve the plate in reverse with the beets over the greens.

And our recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes can also be made with zucchini instead, just follow the same steps. For an added flavor, try these Tasty Veggie Dressings.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend because this farmer was busy working throughout his. The good news is we got all the hay baled and stored. Hooray! Things are in transition as some crops are ending and others are beginning. We have another fresh and full box for you this week. Enjoy!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We apologize for sending this later than we usually do. We were working out some logistics to finalize exactly what items were going in the boxes this week, and some times these decisions have to wait until the last minute. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

This week we are providing you with the sweetest and bitterest of what Mother Nature provides. In the newsletter we offer you a kale recipe provided by one of our long-time members. And to sweeten it, Sarah (Scott and Chrissy's eldest child) offers a strawberry recipe that we have here - Sarah's Strawberry Smoothie.  We hope you enjoy them.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Welcome to the start of our 2014 Blue Goose Farm CSA season! We have hibernated long enough and are so ready for our summer feast to begin. We hope you enjoy eating with us.

In this week's newsletter, we have delicious recipes for a soup and sandwich combo. If that doesn't do it for you, perhaps try this new alternative to an old favorite - Garden Potato Salad.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

The last week of the season. It's a bittersweet moment - the farmer excited for a short break; the members sad for the absence. But absence makes the stomach grow fonder! We have enjoyed a great year of correspondance with our members and a prosperous year in the fields. We look forward to your retun next year, and until then, we send many blessings to your families for a healthy, happy, and hearty holiday season and turn of another year. Until then...
