BLUE GOOSE FARM ~ Nicktown, PA

FROM OUR HANDS TO YOUR TABLE

Welcome to the blog.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

In the next few weeks you'll start to see some vegetables wane as their time comes to an end for their season, while other vegetables will begin theirs. So we are in transition. We have 2 delicious recipes this week, and we hope you have time to try them both.  A reminder...please return the little blue cartons when you're finished with them. Just leave them in a box. Thanks!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Wow, to see the sun again is amazing! Short-lived perhaps, but we'll take what we can, especially after last week - ugh!  You will see new checklists in the binders this week. Please pay attention, if you see "Xtra box" next to your name on a given date that is your reminder to take 2 boxes that day as your make-up from your vacation. Also, at this late stage of the season, things get a bit hairy, so if we do not receive your vacation request 2 weeks prior to your date we will not honor it.  And no vacations after September 21 - no exceptions.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We are at our mid-way point of the season - already it is week 9!  We have the usual summer favorites - corn, tomatoes, peppers, green beans (coming), though this has been an unusual summer weather-wise. Save a prayer for us and beg the rain to cease!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Thank you to those who have shared a family recipe with us. We do try to make all of them. And if we are able to get a good quantity of the vegetable ingredients in the same box, we may feature it in a future newsletter (if not this year, in the next). Again, you may feel inundated with summer squash, so be sure to try this Recipe Addition, Zucchini Butter. It is delish!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Another great box this week. Hope you're getting creative in the kitchen. If you make a dish you can't get enough of, please share your recipe with us. We are always looking to try new things. And because you are getting more and more and more summer squash, be sure to search our recipes on our website. And here is an Additional Recipe you may like, Zucchini Crisp (an oldie but a goody)!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

It is true...be careful what you wish for. The season started with rain, and we longed for the sunshine and heat. Now what?!

PLEASE NOTE: Wednesday deliveries will be on Tuesday this week because of the holiday.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

If you're feeling soggy, moldy, a bit water-logged, you're not alone. We feel it, too!

We offer a few suggestions in our newsletter this week to encourage you in the kitchen. For our new members, this amount of greenery can be overwhelming, so we hope you find delicious ways to get through it not discouraged by it.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We have another great box for you this week. It may seem repetitive, but this is what is fresh and in-season right now.  A great way to use your zucchini throughout the week is to grate it all up, place in a lidded container, and keep on the lower shelf of your fridge. This way it will be easier to quickly add a cup into your cooking - eggs, burgers, pasta sauce, soups, brownies, cake mixes, etc.
