Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We hope everyone enjoyed a pleasantly beautiful Labor Day Weekend. You gotta love those cool early mornings that make you feel like you can conquer the day! Around the farm, much can get accomplished well before 10AM on days like these.

Enjoy the splendidness of this week's box.  We offer two delicious recipes this week, one for our beloved butternut squash and one for our beloved basil.  And for those newer CSA members who may be intimidated by winter squash, we offer a picture tutorial on how to prep and cut a butternut squash.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We thank everyone for their cooperation the past two weeks with having the box with the "extra" item. We especially appreciate our hosts who had to deal with the extra clean up of added boxes. As we phase out of corn, which takes up the most room, we hope we won't need to do that anymore this year.

We have another great box this week full of the flavors of summer. Enjoy it, these goodies won't last much longer.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Yup, it's transition time. Back to school.  Summer crops are stating to come to an end.  But we welcome cabbage and new red potatoes to the box this week!  Please note that the cabbage heads are too big to fit in the box.  Like last week, there will be a big box off to the side with the cabbages, so take one head along with the vegetables in your box.

To our member families with children, good luck with getting back into the school routine. We wish you all a wonderful, healthy school year.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Now into our second half of the season, we will slowly start to see the crops transitioning into late summer/early fall items.  This week we debut our elegant eggplant. If you're not sure what to do with it, review out tried and true recipes on the website (Eggplant Mexicano and Cheesy Eggplant Casserole). We hope to have our summer favorites of corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans for a few more weeks. So even though we have started canning (for the winter), we are still happy to eat the fresh seasonal stuff now!

We have two easy and pleasing recipes that just shout "Summertime!"  Our Late Summer Salad is cool and crisp and just the thing for a hot summer's night - when ya just don't wanna cook over a hot stove.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We are grateful for our blessings when they come.  And grateful we are.  Regardless of the stress Mother Nature is causing us, we still are able to put together a fresh, beautiful and delicious box of produce for you.  If you're preparing for cookouts or family reunions, we have two fun and yummy dishes that will make your mouths happy (and impress those hard-to-please relatives!).

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We are upon the dogs days of summer, that's for sure.  As we turn the corner into August and indulge in mid-summer feasts, we are grateful for the luck of rain and the skill of a farmer's hand. We have a delicious box this week full of summer favorite foods.  Real. Natural. Food. Enjoy!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

With the little teaser of rain we received Friday and Sunday evening, we are still hoping for more rain, of course, but we are also thinking green! So this week we are serving green beans, green peppers and green tomatoes. These items are a nice marker that we have reached our mid-season...and they are among the favorites list.  With the return of one of our beloved recipes, Fried Green Tomatoes, we offer this Buttermilk Dipping Sauce by Patrick and Gina Neely; Food Network.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

A few new items this week - carrots, garlic and leeks. Our new, tender carrots have their beautiful green tops. These greens are edible, though you may need to acquire a taste for them as they tend to be bitter (like many of the healthy greens that are good for us are). At least try them like you would parsley before tossing them to the compost. Also, because these carrots are freshly pulled, simply wash them and eat them - no need to peel them! And according to one of our nieces, "Uncle Scotty grows the best carrots!"

Also, another helpful hint with radishes...when eaten raw they are bitter; when eaten cooked they are mild. So if you're one to shy away from those little rubies, try them again for the first time!

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Boy, we sure could use much rain! The weather reports indicate scattered thunderstorms, well they sure scatter everywhere but here and we so badly need it. If you're up for it - start dancing!

We have a nice box this week with one cucumber and parsley as the new items. We have 2 delicious recipes in the newsletter also - one is another slaw and one is a summer quiche. We know some of our members are home gardeners whose zucchinis are probably just starting to produce. So, as the weeks pass and you feel you have more than you know what to do with, we'll be providing lots of zucchini recipes for you to keep on hand. Here's a link to some yummy Zucchini Cookies with Chips and Cranberries.

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

Happy 4th of July! We hope you enjoyed a lovely weekend full of your fun, our food, family and friends.  We are now in the groove of things and with a bit of rain we'll really be in good shape.

We have 3 more yummy recipes for you this week! We skillfully work to create dishes that will help you consume the bulk of your veggies each week. But if you don't care for ours, hopefully, you are able to find your own simple recipes. Here's the link for Sarah's Provolone & Kale Grilled Cheese. Have fun and get kitchen crazy!
