BGF CSA - "What's In the Box?" Week 2

Dear Blue Goose Farm CSA Members,

We are glad you enjoyed your first box!  It was wonderful to hear from so many of you about how pleased you were with the presentation and fullness of the boxes.  And we appreciate you sharing with us the recipes that you are trying. We do love the feedback from our members.

As we mentioned before, you will be eating lots of greens.  It can seem overwhelming at first, especially when you may not be used to this volume, but you can get through it with a bit of effort!  Kale and chard cook down easily and to such small amounts.  Lettuce moves quickly when used in grand salads - chef salad, grilled chicken or steak salad, or one of our favorites...Taco Salad.  Green onions are a great garnish on just about everything.  And there is joy in sharing, so gift an item to a neighbor to try. Who knows, you may just meet a future CSA member!

"WHAT'S IN THE BOX" - WEEK 2bok choy, green onions, head lettuce, kale, kohlrabi, strawberries, turnips, and radishes OR peas*.

Recipe Suggestions: Bok Choy Chicken Soup; Easy Kale, Beef, and White Bean Stew; Taco Salad; or Creamy Braised Turnips and Kohlrabi with Peas. (All of these may be found on the website.)

*To our new members: when two items are listed with "OR" that simply means we did not have enough of those items for both to go into all the boxes. So we send one item to half the members, and the other item to the other half.

Kohlrabi may be a new item to some of you. Research it on your own for ideas and tips on how to use it. But it is a cross between a turnip and cabbage. It has a peppery flavor and is a great addition to many dishes, try adding it into the Bok Choy Chicken Soup recipe. Simply remove stems, peel it, and cube.
